Festive Avo Trees Appetizer

Ingredients: FOR THE AVO ‘BUTTER’
  • 1 avocado
  • 30 ml (2 tbsp) lime juice
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) avocado or olive oil
  • pinch crushed garlic
  • pinch ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper
  FOR THE TREES
  • 2 pita breads
  • 16 x 3 cm pretzel sticks
  • 125 ml (½ cup) veggies, chopped or sliced
  • 100 g cheddar, thinly sliced

Description

Method:
  1. For the avo butter, mash all the ingredients with a fork until there are no lumps. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. For the trees, cut each pita into 8 wedges. Insert a pretzel stick into the middle at the bottom of each wedge to form a ‘tree trunk’.
  3. Pipe (using a small star nozzle) or spread the avo butter over the wedges. Decorate the trees with the veggies.
  4. Use a 3 cm star cutter to cut the cheese into stars and place at the top of each tree. Serve immediately.
  Tips:
  • Use your favourite veggies like bell peppers, cooked corn kernels and blanched baby peas.
  • A blender works great to make the avo butter if you have electricity.
