WHAT IS THE ‘ADD AN AVO (OR TWO) & TAKE PANTRY STAPLES FROM ZERO TO HERO’,

CULINARY SCHOOLS STUDENT CHEF COMPETITION?

Avocados can be added to almost any meal, and they are suited perfectly as a side dish, a delicious topping or a decadent filler.

Easy to prepare and add to almost any regular pantry staple, avos can take an ordinary meal from zero to hero in seconds. Think avocado mousse with chicken schnitzel and mash, pasta with whipped avo and parmesan, mango chilli and avo espuma atop grilled fish, steak with caramelised avocado yoghurt, garlic avocado butter dripping over charred mielies…

So, whether you’re plating up breakfast, lunch or dinner, add an avo.

We are inviting you, as up-and-coming future chefs, to create one regular mid-week meal which has been elevated to new heights by simply adding avocado in an exotic and exciting way – think out of the box and don’t just dice or slice!

As always, the avocado must be the hero, no matter what other complementary ingredients you decide to use.

Create your own unique recipe, make the avo meal and take a still photo of the meal and a video with your mobile phone – no more than 30 seconds please. Imagine you are presenting the avo meal to a patron at a restaurant, let us know exactly what the meal is all about and how the avocado had elevated a simple meal into something special  – and make it sound appetising! Please introduce yourself at the beginning of the video. Remember that a big part of the judging is also based on visual appetite appeal – so make sure your friend filming the video gets in nice and close to the dish. Take one still photo of the meal as well.

Fill in the entry form (below) which includes your personal details and then paste the full recipe, for your avocado dish, below that.  Save it as a Word document only – do not send us pdf’s or photos of hand-written entry forms. Your entry form must also include a We Transfer link of your uploaded MP4 video. Send that Word document to lauren@protactic.co.za

Just by doing that you might be the winner of one of three cash prizes of between R6 000 to R12 000!

Your still photo will be posted on the @iloveavocadoSA Facebook page in an album specially created for your school.  We will (and you can too) invite fans to Like their favourite meal and one of those people who vote, will be randomly chosen to win R2 500!

NB:  The number of Likes, an entry receives on Facebook, will not influence this year’s judging process.

The meals submitted will be judged by six SAAGA local market development committee (LMDC) members.
